I realise that the Assume the Change meditation is not a regular run-of-the-mill offering. And that it’s core principles may be new to many.
And, even though it is very simple, because the principles are not openly taught in our society (who among us was taught this stuff at school?) they may not at first be easy to understand.
So to help you better engage with the Assume the Change meditation, and thus make it more effective for you, I’ve explained the main steps of the process, following the actual wording of the meditation.
“ASSUME THE CHANGE” SCRIPT – ORIGINS & INTENT
… simply noticing … becoming aware … of how the body breathes in … and breathes out.
… there’s no need to breathe in any different or special way … simply noticing the breath.
These are the first steps to developing the ability to “notice” your experience. A mindfulness practice.
… and as the breath enters and leaves the lungs … feeling the feeling of the breath … with each breath relaxing more deeply …
… and noticing … becoming aware … how the body breathes naturally and easefully … and continuing to relax more and more deeply …
Beginning to feel the feeling of your experience. Harnessing the breath to relax your body. Another mindfulness practice, moving into Heartfulness.
… and gently resting attention on the top of the head … and on the forehead … and on the eyes … and on the nose … and on the cheeks … and on the lips … and on the jaw … and on the neck … and on the shoulders … and on the arms … and all the way to the tips of the fingers and palms of the hands …
… and gently resting attention on the chest … and on the abdomen … and on the pelvic area and sexual organs … and on the legs … and all the way to the tips of the toes and soles of the feet … noticing how the whole body feels … relaxing the whole body …
A hatha yoga relaxation practice. Also known as “passive, progressive relaxation” by therapists.
Learning to move attention around your body.
Noticing how attention is free to move to wherever you choose.
… and noticing … there is awareness of the body … and while noticing … awareness is not the body … and … awareness is not separate from the body … as best you can, letting the body be … just the way it is.
Noticing that awareness does not arise from the body-brain but rather that awareness is aware of the body-brain.
Noticing that awareness itself is not separate from the object it is aware of, ie the body-brain.
Letting the body be just the way it is, is an expression of unconditional love.
… and noticing … there is awareness of thoughts … and while noticing … awareness is not thoughts … and … awareness is not separate from thoughts … as best you can, letting thoughts be … just the way they are.
Noticing that awareness does not arise from the thinking mind but rather that awareness is aware of the thinking mind.
Noticing that awareness itself is not separate from the object it is aware of, ie the thinking mind.
Letting the thinking mind be just the way it is, is an expression of unconditional love.
From The Release Process
… and noticing … awareness simply is … alive here and now … prior to the body … prior to thoughts …
Bringing awareness to awareness itself.
Noticing that awareness does not arise from the body-brain, nor from the thinking mind.
Noticing that awareness itself is already and always free from both body and mind.
From The Release Process
… and allowing all less-than-perfect ideas about the person you have believed your Self to be … but in reality have never actually been … to be just the way they are … and could you … let them go … ?
Releasing identification with, and attachment to, all the ideas – all the thoughts – of who you previously believed (i.e. imagined) yourself to be.
… and now … placing one or both hands on the centre of the chest … on the Heart centre … breathing into … feeling into … the silence of the Heart …
Stepping into Heartful awareness. Becoming aware of the pure Silence that is the nature of our mutual One Heart.
… and telling your Self the truth about your deepest, most Heart-felt desire … about your yearning to … be happy now … about your yearning to be the One you would most deeply, most perfectly, love to be … the One who lives the happy life you would love to live …
… and could you … let go of wanting … to … be happy, here and now?
… and relaxing and resting into the simple feeling of Being …
Activating the power of Truth, the only power that can make you free from lack, limitation and suffering.
Acknowledging the truth of your deepest desire (i.e. wanting), the first step to freedom from desire itself.
Releasing your wanting to be happy (i.e. wanting to be happy in the future).
Beginning to relax into the natural feeling of Being, which is only, ever, felt Now.
… and gently resting attention on the centre of the forehead … just above the nose … on the “eye” of imagination … relaxing the “I” …
… and allowing a vision of the happy life you would most deeply, most perfectly, love to live … to emerge from the silence of the Heart …
Activating the power of imagination. (It’s ok if you don’t get a clear vision at first, as the feeling – of living your happy life – is of primary importance)
Simply relax and allow the vision to emerge in it’s own time.
… and envisioning the play of your happy life … being enacted upon the stage of the world … and enjoying the play as the One you would most deeply, most perfectly, love to be … here and now …
Adapted from Shakespeare’s famous words, “All the world’s a stage and we are players upon it”.
Simply relax, allow and have fun – be playful – with your ability to imagine the play of the happy life your Heart yearns to live.
… and noticing how peaceful it would be … to assume … to blissfully feel … your Heart-felt desire … your vision of happiness … is already so … is already fulfilled and complete … here and now …
… simply assuming … blissfully feeling … that … your Heart-felt desire … your vision of happiness … is already so … is already fulfilled and complete … here and now …
Your Heart’s desire already exists in Consciousness, whose nature is this present moment, Now. Assuming this to be so, to be reality, brings it into physical form.
Dropping into the feeling of Being fulfilled and complete, here and now, prior to all desire for fulfillment.
… and giving thanks for the blissful manifestation of your Heart-felt desire to simply … be happy now … feeling the nourishing spirit of gratitude easefully flowing to the top of the head … to the palms of the hands … and to the soles of the feet … feeling the feeling of gratitude nourishing the whole body …
The blissful power of gratitude cannot be over-emphasised. Gratitude is healing, enlivening, and also confirms that what your Heart desires and assumes to be so, is so.
… and noticing … becoming aware … the silence of the Heart simply is … timeless … already and always present … here and now …
Noticing the Is-ness of our mutual One Heart, the Is-ness of Being, alive as this present moment, here and now.
… and listening … to the Heart’s silent wisdom …
Listening to the Silent source of all wisdom, simply listening to this “power that knows the way”, which will, when you allow it, guide you through all the experiences of your life.
… and knowing … You are … the Silence of the Heart …
Realising that your true nature, who and what you truly are, is Silence Itself – the living Heart of us all – alive, here and now, as Consciousness prior to both body-brain and the thinking mind.
And rest …

I hope the above is helpful. Feel free to ask me questions about the meditation – and anything else to do with the awakening of Consciousness – either in the comments section below or by sending me an email.
I have endless patience for anyone who yearns to know the reality of who and what we, every one of us, truly are – Consciousness Itself.
